How to Get Beautiful Blue Grass
Defined Tag: Blue Grass. Imagine looking out at your lawn and seeing a carpet of lush, deep green grass. With blue grass this kind of lawn is possible without much effort. Blue Grass is one of the most common grasses for planting lawns in the United States. It can grow up to three feet tall. At its full height it grows greenish flowers at the tops of the temps. The grass can grow in almost any kind of soil in meadows, fields, woods, roadside, and on the banks of streams. It grows aggressively, often crowding out other plants. Kentucky blue grass often has dandelions and buttercups growing along with it in lawns. Since blue grass doesn’t grow deep roots, it uses water quickly. The grass grows better in deep, fertile, moist soil. It doesn’t grow well in dry, compacted soil, especially when there is a lot of heat. In the summer months, the grass should be watered frequently to keep it from drying out, ideally every one to three days. Blue grass needs at least a half a day of sun in order to grow well. More than likely it will not grow to its fullest potential in a yard that is shaded with trees. The best height for blue grass in lawns is two inches. Avoid mowing the grass to close. Doing so will cause the grass to weaken and encourage weed growth. During the hottest part of summer, mow the grass at three inches so that it can store more moisture. When dry spells occur avoid cutting the grass at all until the soil is receiving a steady amount of moisture. In the late winter or early spring, apply crabgrass preventer with fertilizer to keep crabgrass seeds from germinating and to fertilize the soil. Apply weed and feed in late spring and early summer to kill any weeds that are growing and feed the lawn. To speed up the greening of the lawn use a lawn fertilizer in late summer. Finally, use a winterizer in fall to strengthen the lawn against harsh winter conditions and to encourage the lawn to green faster the next spring.
